To contribute protection of the rights of children ‘For Children’ consortium will going to arrange Concert For Child Rights at 9 Mar 2024, Bangla Academy, Dhaka.
Background:
A child is any person under the age of 18 [UN CRC]. Every child has certain fundamental rights, these rights are often referred to as children’s rights. Bangladesh has taken significant steps to improve the lives of children and protect their rights. Various institutions and organizations have dedicated themselves to working on child rights issues, reflecting the collective commitment to ensuring a better future.
In a milestone development, the Girl Child Advocacy Forum, in collaboration with Good Neighbors Bangladesh and other organizations, recently published the ‘Status of Girl Children 2021-2022’ report. This report sheds light on the overall status of girl children in Bangladesh, report reveals 224 girls were victims of sexual harassment and torture, 191 girls were victims of child marriage, 2,104 girls were victims of rape, 484 girls were victims of suicide, moreover, pictures of the torture of girls’ children due to various reasons such as murder, domestic labor torture, etc. are horrible.
From January to August 2023, new statistics have emerged, showing that children continue to face these challenges. 329 victims of sexual harassment and torture, 260 victims of child marriage, 493 victims of rape, 181 victims of suicide. These figures underscore the need for ongoing efforts to protect and empower the children of Bangladesh.
It is a stark reminder that despite progress, there is much work to be done to protect the well-being and future of children in Bangladesh.
To address these pressing concerns, recently we Aparajeyo-Bangladesh, Ek Ronga Ek Ghuri, Shornokishoree Network Foundation, and Good Neighbors Bangladesh formed ‘For Children [শিশুর জন্য]’ consortium. To contribute protection of the rights of children this consortium will take various activities.
Primarily ‘For Children’ consortium has taken an initiative to arrange a Concert for Child Rights to raise awareness of Child Rights among the mass people by engaging every level of related stakeholders, actors, and singers supported by Good Neighbors Bangladesh.
Objective of the Concert for Child Rights
– To raise awareness about child rights among 10,000 people directly
– To create scope for the children to participate in entertainment
– To reach out to at least 20 million people through media and social media on child rights
– To support education materials among 500 children from collected funds
– To provide health protection materials to 500 adolescent girls with funds from the concert.
– To arrange special training for 300 girls engaged in domestic work
– To establish partnerships to ensure the ongoing rights and welfare of children in Bangladesh.
