| Impact | In Karaibaria Union of Talali Upazila, Specially GGHSP project area there were no safe drinking water facilities. People drink water from shallow tube well or pond, which are germs contaminated and not safe for health. People were affected by water borne diseases which mainly comes from unsafe drinking water. The safe water supply facilities of this project contribute to decrease the water-borne diseases and malnutrition of children, as well as the whole community. Children will be able to concentrate in studying when, they do not suffer for the lack of safe drinking water. Children will be able to study properly, then the society will be developed eventually. The project’s interventions will be resulted in positive change of knowledge, skills, attitude and behavioral change on responsible uses of safe drinking water. With using the safe water community people met with their basic human needs and the targeted beneficiaries will be able to live a healthy life. This project increases the accessibility of safe drinking water. As long as the water facility will be there, people won’t suffer from water borne diseases. As a result, they will be able to save their treatment cost. Beside mortality rate also will be decreased. |
| Lesson learned and challenges | The project implementation area is located in a coastal region. There is frequent rainfall and natural disasters in this area, which disrupt ongoing work. Also there is a lack of unity among the community members. People are not aware about healthy lifestyle and also the malnutrition rate is high. There is scarcity of drinking water and water sources in the community. Commonly people use pond water for their daily necessities. The community lacks opportunity and facilities to reserve rain water for daily necessities. The community is highly affected by salinity intrusion. There are no water purification materials for drinking water in the community. Despite all the challenges, Good Neighbors Bangladesh emphasized the importance of clean water within the community and united the people to successfully complete the planned project activities. |
| Others | As per the project activity plan, a Safe Water Committee has been formed, and training has been provided to its members. This committee will conduct monthly meeting. They will manage fund from the community people and deposit in a bank account monthly basis. Three members will be the signatory. Chairperson of the Safe Water Committee as a representative of the community, The Chairperson of GNB Community Development Committee (Just like advisor committee) and CDP Manager as a representative of Good Neighbors Bangladesh. With the signature of the two-person, money will be withdrawn as per project needs. From the account they will bear all expenses of utility cost and maintenances cost. For ensuring transparency, the new bank account will be opened. Good Neighbors Bangladesh monitor the overall water supply facilities and financial issue very closely. |
