Jui’s wings of hope took her from local to global heights: A former community supporter of GNB Dohar CDP

Jui Akter, a young girl from a small village in Dohar, Dhaka, grew up in a childhood shaped by poverty and social norms that pushed her toward early marriage. Struggling with financial hardship, she was on the verge of dropping out of school and faced the looming risk of child marriage.

Her life took a new turn when she joined Good Neighbors Bangladesh (GNB). Through the Sponsorship Program, Jui joined as a Sponsorship Service Supporter and started participating in youth activities, skill development sessions, and campaigns against child marriage. Step by step, she discovered her confidence, strengthened her leadership skills, and experienced the power of interactive youth involvement.

What began as volunteering soon grew into a life-changing journey. “Happy to work as a youth volunteer,” Jui recalls, as she realized that change is possible when girls are given the right opportunities. GNB became her platform for growth, proving that effective skill development and opportunity can transform lives.

With GNB’s support, I grew from a shy local youth into an international student. GNB gave me leadership opportunities that I never imagined. Now I study abroad, support my family, and inspire others; it’s truly beyond my dreams. Thanks to GNB! – Ms. Jui Akter, Former Sponsorship Service Supporter, Dohar CDP

Today, Jui’s story is more than a dream. She has become an international student, pursuing higher education at the University of Maribor in Spain, while working part-time in Benalmádena, Málaga. With her earnings, she supports herself and even sends money to her family. It is mentioned that Jui’s mother is a member of GNB’s Income Generation activities

Now, Jui motivates other girls in Dohar to stay in school, develop their potential, and believe in their own leadership. Her transformation reflects the truth that changes happen because of GNB, and her success shows the power of education, youth development, and leadership.

I once thought my daughter’s place was only at home. Now, I see her standing strong, and I believe every girl deserves this opportunity. GNB’s youth development initiatives gave her hands-on experience, and today she can support herself. I am very thankful to GNB. – Mother of Jui Akter
