Rubel Rana’s journey with Good Neighbors Bangladesh (GNB) began in Ghatail CDP in 1999, when he became a sponsored child. From a young age, Rubel showed unwavering determination and a love for learning despite the challenges of poverty and the loss of his father, Late Md. Hasen Ali. His mother, Hasna Begum, struggled to maintain the household, but Rubel’s resolve and GNB’s timely support opened the door to a brighter future.
Empowering a Child Through Education
Through GNB’s Child Sponsorship Program, Rubel received comprehensive support educational materials, school fees, nutrition, and healthcare, that ensured he could stay in school. The program also engaged him in child development activities, nurturing his confidence, creativity, and leadership.
This holistic support paid off. Rubel completed his Secondary and Higher Secondary education with distinction and went on to earn:
- B.A. (Hons.) in English (2015)
- M.A. in English (2016) from the Government. Saadat College, Tangail
- B.Ed. (2024) from the Govt. Teachers’ Training College, Dhaka
Growing Beyond the Classroom
Rubel’s achievements were not limited to academics.
In 2003, he became one of the first recipients of GNB’s Supratibeshi Scholarship, followed by a Government Scholarship in 2009. As captain of the Good Neighbors High School football team, he led his school to become Ghatail Champions and represent Tangail District in 2007, proving
that GNB’s approach to child development nurtures both mind and body.
A Volunteer Turned Community Leader
After completing his sponsorship, Rubel continued his connection with GNB by serving as a community volunteer. He led awareness campaigns on education, hygiene, and youth empowerment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked alongside Ghatail CDP teams to distribute relief, promote handwashing, and assist vulnerable families, demonstrating GNB’s success in cultivating socially responsible citizens.
“Rubel’s commitment to serve during the pandemic showed how deeply GNB’s values are rooted in its youth. He turned gratitude into action, inspiring others to do the same.”
— Nurun Nahar, Community Leader, Ghatail
A Teacher, A Mentor, A Role Model
Today, Rubel serves as an Assistant Teacher (English)
at Rahmatpur I.G. Dakhil Madrashah, Ghatail, Tangail. He is admired by
students and colleagues for his empathy, dedication, and ability to inspire.
“Rubel teaches with compassion and purpose. His journey
from a sponsored child to a teacher reflects the true success of
community-based development. He motivates his students to dream bigger, just as
he once did.”
— Kazi Md. Nuruzzaman, Teacher, Rahmatpur I.G. Dakhil Madrashah
Rubel reflects with heartfelt appreciation:
“I shall remain forever grateful to Good Neighbors. Their
care and guidance shaped my life and identity. I am proud to be a product of
this organization, and I will always stand by its mission. To me, GNB is not
just an organization—it is my family, my guide, and my lifelong inspiration.”
Rubel’s transformation from a sponsored child in need to an
educated youth leader and community role model demonstrates the power of integrated
child development and youth empowerment under Good Neighbors
Bangladesh. His story proves that when children are supported with education,
care, and opportunity, they grow into changemakers who uplift their communities
and inspire generations.
