On 21 September 2025, Good Neighbors Bangladesh, with the support of Good Neighbors Japan and funding from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs (MOFA) of Japan, inaugurated and officially handed over Dalbuganj Monosatoli Multipurpose Model Cyclone Shelters in Kalapara Upazila, Patuakhali.
The ceremony was graced by Mr. Karasawa Shinju, First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh, the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (Acting), representatives from Fire Service, Police, CPP, Union Parishad, community leaders, media, and development partners. The event was presided over by Mr. Bartin Gomes, Country Head of Good Neighbors Bangladesh.
Under the MOFA DRR Project (2023–2025), we: Renovated 4 cyclone shelters with inclusive facilities
Built 2 unique Multipurpose Model Cyclone & Cattle Shelters — the first of their kind in Bangladesh
Installed solar systems in 22 school-cum-cyclone shelters
Formed and trained disaster management committees & 400+ volunteers
Reached and supported nearly 70,000 people in Nilganj, Mohipur & Dalbuganj unions
This milestone not only marks the inauguration of the shelters but also the official closing of the project — a collective effort to protect lives and strengthen disaster resilience in coastal Bangladesh.
We express our heartfelt gratitude to the Government of Japan and Good Neighbors Japan for their unwavering support. Together, we are building safer and stronger communities.
