Earth & Us Campaign: Youth Action for Climate and Community Resilience

In observance of World Environment Day (5 June), Good Neighbors Bangladesh launched a bold and transformative 10-day campaign “Earth
& Us.”
Implemented across 17 Community Development Projects (CDPs), the initiative demonstrated how collective action, driven by youth leadership, can translate environmental awareness into measurable impact.

Turning Awareness into Action

The “Earth & Us” campaign was not just a symbolic celebration; it was a coordinated, multi-level intervention integrating advocacy, community mobilization, and hands-on environmental action. Led by the dynamic members of the Nature and Peace Clubsthe campaign was activated:

  • • 402 youth leaders as frontline advocates for climate action
  • • 1,828 students from 83 schools, directly engaged in learning-by-doing
  • • 6,697 community members, reached through grassroots awareness initiatives

The campaign design combined education with action, ensuring that participants did not just understand environmental challenges but actively contributed to solutions.

From Streets to Schools: Activities That Inspired Change

The campaign unfolded through a rich mix of activities that brought communities together:

  • • Awareness Rallies & Public Mobilization: Vibrant rallies moved through main roads, amplifying messages on climate change, pollution, and sustainable living.
  • • Community Dialogues & Learning Sessions: Interactive sessions with government officials, educators, and community leaders highlighted practical solutions for reducing plastic use, conserving resources, and increasing green cover.
  • • School-Based Engagement: Students became change agents, organizing cleanliness drives, maintaining school environments, and spreading awareness among peers and families.
  • • Cleaning Campaigns: Youth volunteers led coordinated environmental clean-ups across schools and public spaces, reinforcing the importance of responsible waste management.
  • • Tree Plantation & Greening Initiatives: A cornerstone of the campaign, where:
  •         • 1,968 saplings were distributed
    •         • 736 trees were planted across communities, school grounds, and roadside areas

These efforts directly contributed to enhancing green coverage and promoting climate resilience at the local level.

Youth at the Center: Driving Behavioral Transformation

The campaign’s most powerful impact lies in its ability to inspire long-term behavioral change. Young people emerged as environmental ambassadors, demonstrating leadership, responsibility, and innovation.

Students took ownership of maintaining clean school environments, setting a replicable model for community-driven sustainability.
Across Sirajganj, Nilphamari, Meherpur, and Taltali, youth-led initiatives consistently bridged the gap between awareness and action.

As one national journalist observed:

a cleaner and greener community.”

Strong Stakeholder Engagement: A Unified Voice for the Environment

The campaign successfully brought together government representatives, educators, local leaders, and civil society, strengthening
a multi-stakeholder approach to environmental protection.

“Such programs are highly significant. Today, we learned about carbon footprints, the importance of tree planting, and the impacts of
climate change.”

The success of the “Earth & Us” campaign reinforces a critical message:
Climate action is most powerful when it is local, inclusive, and youth-driven.
