From Classroom to Community: Development Communication in Practice

Good Neighbors Bangladesh (GNB) continues its commitment to strengthening development communication by bridging academia and real-world practice. Today (3 May 2026), GNB proudly partnered with the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, American International University-Bangladesh (AIUB) to organize a workshop titled “From Classroom to Community: Development Communication in Practice”, held at the Media Studio, AIUB.

The workshop was designed to connect theoretical knowledge with practical experience, enabling students to better understand how communication plays a critical role in social development. Undergraduate students from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication actively participated, demonstrating strong interest and engagement throughout the session.

Bringing Real-World Development Communication into the Classroom

During the workshop, professionals from Good Neighbors Bangladesh shared practical insights and real-life case stories from the organization’s extensive experience in development communication and media advocacy. These examples illustrated how strategic communication is used to raise awareness, influence positive behavior change, and ensure that development initiatives effectively reach communities across Bangladesh.

The session emphasized:

  • • The role of media and communication in community development
  • • Practical applications of development communication strategies
  • • Advocacy through storytelling and ethical journalism
  • • Challenges and opportunities in communicating for social change

The interactive discussion allowed students to reflect on how they can apply classroom learning to professional practice, inspiring them to become responsible communicators for development.

Strategic Partnership through MoU Signing

Following the workshop, Good Neighbors Bangladesh and AIUB formalized a strategic partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the next three years.

Under this agreement:

  • • GNB and AIUB will collaborate on research initiatives related to development and communication
  • • Students of AIUB will have access to internship opportunities at Good Neighbors Bangladesh
  • • AIUB students will also be able to participate in volunteer programs, gaining hands-on experience in development work

This partnership reflects a shared vision of nurturing skilled, ethical, and socially responsible communication professionals.

Distinguished Participation

The MoU signing ceremony was graced by the presence of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice-Chancellor, Deans, and faculty members of AIUB, highlighting the importance of collaboration between academic institutions and development organizations. On behalf of Good Neighbors Bangladesh, the Country Director signed the MoU.

Good Neighbors Bangladesh believes that empowering young communicators is essential for sustainable development. By working closely with academic institutions like AIUB, GNB aims to strengthen evidence-based communication, research, and youth engagement for long-term social impact.

This initiative marks another meaningful step toward transforming knowledge into action—from classroom to community.
