“মাওয়াজ এর চোখে এখনও স্বপ্ন আছে”
— সাত বছরের একটি শিশুর বেঁচে থাকার আকুতি
সাত বছর বয়স, এই বয়সে শিশুরা স্কুলের মাঠে দৌড়ায়, বইয়ের পাতায় রঙ খোঁজে, বন্ধুদের সাথে খেলায় মেতে থাকে। কিন্তু মেহেরপুরের বাগোয়ান গ্রামের ছোট্ট মাওয়াজ মোল্লা (মানিক) আজ শুয়ে আছে হাসপাতালে, নিঃশব্দ, নিথর, চোখে একরাশ স্বপ্ন আর যন্ত্রণার ছাপ নিয়ে।
মাওয়াজ এর জন্ম মুজিবনগর উপজেলার বাগোয়ান গ্রামের একটি দরিদ্র পরিবারে। বাবা আলমগীর মোল্লা বর্তমানে একজন প্রবাসী শ্রমিক, মাসিক আয় খুবই সামান্য যার অধিকাংশ পরিবারের ৫ জন সদস্যের ভরণ পোষণেই চলে যায়। মা মোছা: মিলিয়ারা একজন গৃহিণী। তিন ভাইয়ের মধ্যে মাওয়াজ মেঝো, তাঁর যমজ আরেক ভাই নিওমেক্লিয়া রোগে আক্রান্ত, তিন মাস পরপর রক্ত দিতে হয়; বড় ভাই পড়াশুনা করে।
মাওয়াজ ছিল চঞ্চল, প্রাণবন্ত আর স্বপ্নে ভরা। ওর স্বপ্ন ছিল বড় হয়ে ডাক্তার হওয়ার, ছোট্ট মাওয়াজ বলতো, “আমি বড় হয়ে ডাক্তার হবো, মানুষকে সুস্থ করব।” কিন্তু ২০২৫ সালের জানুয়ারিতে হঠাৎ তার জীবন থেমে যেতে বসে। প্রথমে মাথা ঘোরা, দুর্বলতা, বমি ধীরে ধীরে দেখা দেয় অস্বাভাবিক উপসর্গ। অবশেষে ডাক্তার জানান, তার মস্তিষ্কে একটি টিউমার, যেটা হতে পারে intraventricular meningioma বা ependymoma—একটি জটিল ব্রেইন টিউমার।
জানুয়ারিতে একটি বড় অপারেশন হয়েছে। এরপরও চলতে থাকে হাসপাতালে দৌড়ঝাঁপ ন্যাশনাল ইনস্টিটিউট অব নিউরোসায়েন্সেস, আর.এ খান মডার্ন হাসপাতাল, আল–মানার হাসপাতাল। চিকিৎসকরা বলছেন, মাওয়াজের আবারও অপারেশন দরকার। প্রয়োজন আরও চিকিৎসা, ওষুধ, টেস্ট আর দীর্ঘ ফলোআপ।
এখন পর্যন্ত প্রায় ২ লাখ টাকা খরচ হয়েছে। মাওয়াজের পরিবার আর পারছে না। সামনে দরকার আরও ২ লাখ টাকার অধিক। এই অর্থ না হলে হয়তো থেমে যাবে মানিকের স্বপ্ন। বন্ধ হয়ে যাবে তার ডাক্তার হওয়ার পথ।
মাওয়াজ এর চিকিৎসার জন্য এখনো অনেক টাকার প্রয়োজন। আমাদের পারিবারিক অস্বচ্ছলতার কারণে, এত টাকা জোগাড় করতে সমস্যায় পড়তে হচ্ছে। আমি সকলের সহযোগিতা চাই আমি চাই আমার ছেলে যেন বাঁচে, যেন আবার স্কুলে যেতে পারে। মানিক মাঝে মাঝে একটু কথা বলে, আর বলে মা, আমি আর খেলতে পারবো না? – মাওয়াজ এর মা

— A seven-year-old’s desire to survive
Seven years old, at this age, children run around the schoolyard, search for colors in the pages of books, and play with friends. But little Mawaz Molla (Manik) from Bagowan village in Meherpur is lying in the hospital today, silent, frozen, with a dream and pain in his eyes.
Mawaz was born in a poor family in Bagowan village in Mujibnagar upazila. Father Alamgir Molla is currently a migrant worker; his monthly income is tiny, with most of it going to support his family of five. Mother Ms. Miliara is a housewife. Mawaz is the youngest of three brothers; his twin brother is suffering from neoplastic disease, and he has to donate blood every three months; his elder brother studies.
Mawaz was restless, lively, and full of dreams. His dream was to become a doctor when he grew up. Little Mawaz used to say, “I will become a doctor when I grow up, and cure people.” But in January 2025, his life suddenly came to a standstill. At first, dizziness, weakness, and vomiting gradually appeared, unusual symptoms. Finally, the doctor said that he had a tumor in his brain, which could be an intraventricular meningioma or ependymoma—a complex brain tumor.
A major operation was performed in January. Even then, the rush to the hospital continued at the National Institute of Neurosciences, R.A. Khan Modern Hospital, and Al-Manar Hospital. Doctors say that Mawaz needs another operation. More treatment, medicine, tests, and long follow-up are needed.
About 2 lakh taka has been spent so far. Mawaz’s family can’t afford it anymore. More than 2 lakh taka is needed in the future. Without this money, Manik’s dream might stop. His path to becoming a doctor will be blocked.
