Threading
a Future: How Hasina Wove Hope into Opportunity
For
years, poverty defined Hasina’s future. Living in rural Sirajganj, Bangladesh,
her family survived on her husband’s irregular daily wages, leaving little hope
of securing a better future for their two sons.
A
significant turning point came when Hasina’s two sons were enrolled in the Good
Neighbors Sirajganj Community Development Project (CDP). Through child
sponsorship, the family received educational materials, healthcare services,
nutritional support, and regular case management. These interventions eased
their financial burden while creating opportunities for the family’s long-term
development.
Recognizing
her determination, Good Neighbors invested in Hasina’s potential through
six-month vocational training and access to a cooperative loan in 2009.
Equipped with new skills and her first sewing machine, she transformed a small
home-based tailoring service into a sustainable livelihood.
Today,
Hasina owns three sewing machines, generates a stable income throughout the
year, has purchased 20 decimal lands, built a permanent home, and supported
both sons in higher education.
Hasina’s
impact extends well beyond her own household. She has trained approximately 50
women in tailoring and embroidery, enabling many to establish independent
livelihoods. Their increased incomes have strengthened household resilience,
improved children’s education, and inspired more women in the community to
pursue economic opportunities.
Reflecting on her journey, Hasina says, “Good
Neighbors did more than support my children—it gave me the skills, confidence,
and opportunity to transform my family’s future. Today, I can support my family
and help other women become self-reliant.”

বছরের পর বছর দারিদ্র্যই
ছিল হাসিনার জীবনের বাস্তবতা। বাংলাদেশের সিরাজগঞ্জের একটি গ্রামে বসবাসকারী হাসিনার
পরিবার পুরোপুরি নির্ভরশীল ছিল তাঁর স্বামীর অনিয়মিত দিনমজুরির আয়ের ওপর। ফলে দুই ছেলের
মৌলিক চাহিদা পূরণই ছিল কঠিন, আর তাদের জন্য একটি উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন ছিল প্রায়
অধরাই।
পরিবর্তনের সূচনা ঘটে
যখন হাসিনার দুই ছেলে গুড নেইবারস সিরাজগঞ্জ কমিউনিটি ডেভেলপমেন্ট প্রজেক্ট এর স্পন্সরশিপ
কর্মসূচির আওতায় আসে। এই কর্মসূচির মাধ্যমে পরিবারটি শিক্ষা উপকরণ, স্বাস্থ্যসেবা,
পুষ্টি সহায়তা এবং নিয়মিত ফলোআপসহ বিভিন্ন ধরনের সহায়তা পেতে শুরু করে। ফলে তাদের আর্থিক
চাপ কমে আসে এবং দীর্ঘমেয়াদি উন্নয়নের নতুন সম্ভাবনার দ্বার উন্মোচিত হয়।
হাসিনার দৃঢ় মনোবল ও
সম্ভাবনাকে বিবেচনায় নিয়ে ২০০৯ সালে গুড নেইবারস তাঁকে ছয় মাসের সেলাই প্রশিক্ষণ এবং
একটি সমবায় ঋণের সুযোগ করে দেয়। অর্জিত দক্ষতা ও প্রথম সেলাই মেশিনকে পুঁজি করে তিনি
ঘরে বসেই একটি ছোট পরিসরের দর্জি কাজ শুরু করেন, যা ধীরে ধীরে একটি টেকসই আয়ের উৎসে
পরিণত হয়।
বর্তমানে হাসিনার তিনটি
সেলাই মেশিন রয়েছে। সেলাই ও নকশিকাঁথা তৈরির মাধ্যমে তিনি সারা বছর নিয়মিত আয় করছেন।
এই আয়ের ফলে পরিবারটি ২০ শতাংশ জমি কিনেছে, একটি পাকা বাড়ি নির্মাণ করেছে এবং দুই ছেলের
উচ্চশিক্ষা নিশ্চিত করতে সক্ষম হয়েছে—যা একসময় তাদের কাছে
ছিল কেবলই স্বপ্ন।
তবে হাসিনার সাফল্য
শুধু তাঁর পরিবারের মধ্যেই সীমাবদ্ধ নয়। তিনি প্রায় ৫০ জন নারীকে সেলাই ও নকশিকাঁথা
তৈরির প্রশিক্ষণ দিয়েছেন। তাঁদের অনেকেই এখন নিজস্ব আয়মুখী কাজে যুক্ত হয়ে পরিবারের
আর্থিক অবস্থার উন্নয়ন, সন্তানের শিক্ষা নিশ্চিতকরণ এবং আত্মনির্ভরশীল জীবন গড়ে তুলতে
সক্ষম হয়েছেন। ফলে হাসিনা আজ তাঁর এলাকায় নারীর অর্থনৈতিক ক্ষমতায়নের একজন অনুপ্রেরণাদায়ী
পথপ্রদর্শক হিসেবে পরিচিত।
নিজের এই যাত্রার কথা
স্মরণ করে হাসিনা বলেন, “গুড নেইবারস শুধু আমার সন্তানদেরই সহায়তা করেনি; তারা
আমাকে দক্ষতা, আত্মবিশ্বাস এবং নিজের পরিবারের ভবিষ্যৎ বদলে দেওয়ার সুযোগ দিয়েছে। আজ
আমি শুধু নিজের পরিবারকেই নয়, অন্য নারীদেরও আত্মনির্ভরশীল হতে সহায়তা করতে পারছি।”
হাসিনার গল্প প্রমাণ
করে, একজন নারীর সম্ভাবনায় বিনিয়োগ একটি পরিবার থেকে শুরু করে পুরো সম্প্রদায়ের জীবনে
দীর্ঘস্থায়ী ইতিবাচক পরিবর্তন আনতে পারে। স্পন্সরশিপ, জীবিকায়ন এবং নারীর অর্থনৈতিক
ক্ষমতায়নের সমন্বিত উদ্যোগের মাধ্যমে গুড নেইবারস পরিবারগুলোকে দারিদ্র্যের চক্র থেকে
বেরিয়ে এসে মর্যাদা, সহনশীলতা ও আত্মনির্ভরশীলতার পথে এগিয়ে যেতে সহায়তা করছে। আজ হাসিনার
প্রতিটি সেলাই কেবল তাঁর নিজের সাফল্যের গল্পই নয়, বরং আগামী প্রজন্মের জন্য আশা ও
সম্ভাবনায় বোনা একটি উজ্জ্বল ভবিষ্যতের প্রতীক।
