For many vulnerable families, poverty often turns the dream of education into a struggle for survival. To help break this cycle, Good Neighbors Bangladesh established the Special Child Hostel in 2011, providing vulnerable children with a safe home, education, and the opportunity to build a better future.
Karim was among the first children to join the hostel. Once working long hours in a lathe workshop, he watched other children go to school and wondered if he would ever get the same chance.
That chance came through the GNB Special Child Hostel. For the first time, Karim had a safe place to live, access to education, and people who encouraged him to dream beyond his circumstances.
The hostel offered more than a safe home. Through education, life skills, mentoring, and leadership opportunities, children gained the confidence to build brighter futures.
Without Good Neighbors, I would probably still be a child laborer. The hostel not only educated me but also taught me how to dream, believe in myself, and build a better future. Now, I want to support other children facing the same challenges that I once faced.- Karim
Karim embraced every opportunity. After completing his SSC, he became an award-winning volunteer, worked with GNB, and later secured a job at a multinational company while continuing his studies.

Today, many former hostel residents are pursuing higher education, building successful careers, and contributing to their communities. Karim’s journey demonstrates how access to care, education, and opportunity can transform lives and create lasting change. Building on this impact, GNB has expanded its efforts beyond the hostel, reaching thousands of vulnerable children through education support, child protection initiatives, and family empowerment programs.
