Good Neighbors Bangladesh (GNB) celebrated the successful inauguration and handover of a school library as part of the “Knowledge
Center Establishment and Education Facilities for Schools in Coastal Area” project in Taltali, a vulnerable coastal region of Barguna.
Held at South Jharakhali SESDP Model High School, the event brought together students, teachers, local leaders, and government
representatives. The occasion was inaugurated by Ms. Umme Salma, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Taltali, along with the Country Head of Good Neighbors Bangladesh, Mr. Bartin Gomes.
Highlights included a video documentary presentation, reflections from students and community members, and the ceremonial handover of
vital educational materials—laptops, monitors, chairs, tables, bookshelves, and a diverse range of books—to four targeted schools. These resources aim to bridge the learning gap for coastal students and promote a reading culture in remote areas.
In four coastal schools, rooms are being transformed into learning hubs. Libraries are being set up with books, computers, projectors, and cozy reading corners. 4 Reading clubs are formed to spark curiosity. 6 meetings are conducted by 4 reading clubs in a total of 24 meetings. Campaigns are empowering students. Each student got a file bag, 5 notebooks, and 5 pens.
This 6-month initiative touches the lives of over 1,224 students directly and 4,800+ community members indirectly. By improving access
to quality education, the project is reducing dropout rates and reigniting the joy of learning.
This initiative is part of GNB’s ongoing mission to promote inclusive education and community resilience, in line with GN Vision 2030 and
SDG 4 (Quality Education).
